Installing Java for Firefox or Mozilla on Linux
mozsunjava.sh
This simple bash script for Linux will set up Java support for Firefox or Mozilla and, if necessary, install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
Note: For more detailed information on what the script does, and how to run it, check out the guide.
To download: right-click on the link above, select "Save link as", and save it to your home directory.
Before downloading the JRE
Note: You can run the script without downloading the JRE - in this situation the script can detect and attempt to use an existing JRE.
Downloading the JRE
Download JRE [14Mb]
Follow the link above and, on the page displayed, you'll see "Linux (self-extracting file)".
Click on the "Download" button to the right of this.
Make sure that you don't click on the Download for the RPM option!
Save the file to your 'home' directory (with the mozsunjava.sh file).
Why you should use this script
To add Java support to Firefox/Mozilla 1.4+ you'll need to have a JRE installed to the /usr/java directory, or download and install Sun's JRE (15.8Mb).
If you're not the type of person who wants to go tweaking around your system to set up Java with Mozilla browsers, this is the script for you.
