Leiston - pictures, information, and links
Out in the Suffolk countryside, just over one mile away from the beach at Sizewell, near Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, lies the small town of Leiston (or Leiston-cum-Sizewell, to be precise).
Leiston is not bad at all really. Some people complain about living here and having their bodily tissues infiltrated by billions of radioctive particles; however, being in close proximity to a nuclear power plant, a shut-down nuclear power plant, and potentially another nuclear power plant does not bother me; residents of this area do not glow in the dark -- contrary to popular opinion; and as of yet I have seen no mutated creatures, except for a three-legged dog -- the misfortune of which I believe is unassociated with toxic material.
The countryside in this particular part of Suffolk is very much alive, offering plenty of places to walk: past the nuclear power plants, heading up the coast, you can find the Sizewell Belts; on the opposite side of the power plants, heading down, you can find North Warren and Aldringham Walks along the Suffolk Sandlings.
Here are a few obligatory pictures of Leiston and the surrounding area (taken by myself and my good friend Christopher Leech). Those in the snow were snapped as I passed by the White Horse Hotel during the Winter of 2003.
